God
is the Master Potter
Many
scriptures convey that God is the "Master Potter" of
our lives, and he specifically created us for His pleasure. Have
you ever pondered the idea of God as the potter and His children,
the clay? What would it mean if God were the Master Potter of
your life. I have often thought about what it means to let God
be the Master Potter of my life.
As
a potter, I begin thinking of a type of vessel I want to make
and the purpose that it will serve. Then I begin imagining what
it will look like, the shape, features, functions, and appearance.
In other words, I choose a purpose for the vessel and develop
a vision. This is where we begin our understanding. God is the
Potter of our lives. He has already decided on a purpose and has
created a vision for our lives. (Psalm 37:4-11)
We
can seek God to be the Master Potter of our lives.
Though
most groups opt for a one-day event, "God is the Master Potter"
can also adapt to a Friday night and all-day format, or a weekend
retreat from Friday evening to Sunday around noon. The longer
formats allow more group discussion and personal reflection time
for the participants.
Whatever
the approach, these sessions form the core of teaching at the
potter's wheel: God Has a Design for Us (Vision & Purpose),
Molding the Clay (Shaping), Firing the Vessel (Enduring Trials),
and A Completed Vessel (Influence & Service).
